Jón Ásbjörnsson hf was formally founded in 1977. It started in exporting lumpfish roe but soon begun selling other fish also, among with importing and selling fishing net from Japan. Soon Jón and his family founded Fiskkaup hf for producing fish for export.

The company grew very quickly by exporting fresh fish in containers(up to 10.000 tons a year) to auction markets in Hull and Grimsby   and later salted fish to Spain and other countries.

The main focus of the conpany today is on exporting salted fish and fresh fish, but aslo it is still the biggest exporter og lumpfish roe in Iceland. Jon Ásbjörnsson hf sis also one of the leading companys in Iceland in selling bait to fishing boats mostly herring, squit and pacific saury..
